Welcome to Kerlin Schoolhouse! This Stone Cottage was built in 1870 and served as a one-room schoolhouse for over 100 years before being converted into a home.
Kerlin Schoolhouse is located in a quiet, private, peaceful setting in the beautiful countryside. The home features an open concept, loft bedroom with ladder-style staircase, living room open to the kitchen, and a bathroom tucked to the side of the kitchen.
Built of local limestone, the stone walls are nearly 2 feet thick!
Kerlin Schoolhouse is located in a beautiful area. Some of the tallest hills in Illinois are nearby. The schoolhouse is surrounded by farm fields on all 4 sides, no neighbors within half a mile, and peaceful windmills are located behind. 2 state parks are located within a 10 minute drive!

All located on a private half acre in the countryside, surrounded by corn fields on all 4 sides.

If additional firewood is needed, it can be purchased nearby.
* Staircase: Please note: The bedroom is in a loft and is accessed by a loft-style staircase as shown in the pictures.
* Pets: Housebroken, well-behaved Dogs are allowed with pre-approval & pet fees required. The pet fee is $25 per night, per dog, with a limit of 2 dogs. Guests must reach out before booking to have pets pre-approved. (Sorry, no cats.). Please bring a pet bed or blankets for your dog to use.
* Check-in is anytime after 4 pm, and check-out is 10:00 am. We're unable to provide early check-in or late check-out.
* Children under the age of 10 are not permitted due to the loft staircase, balcony, and woodburning stove.
* There is 1 exterior camera at the property, which monitors the driveway and road for security purposes.
The schoolhouse is located just off of Stagecoach Trail, the historic Chicago-to-Galena road. Within just over a 30 minute drive of the schoolhouse you'll find historic Galena, 3 State Parks (2 state parks are just 10 minutes away: Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park and Apple River Canyon State Park), the Mississippi River, Wisconsin, Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort, Freeport, and much more.
